Our ex-show apartment is in a converted Georgian Mill complex on an island in the middle of Dublin's River Liffey. It is spacious and sunny with direct views across the River Liffey Weir and the open parkland of Dublin's War Memorial Gardens and the Phoenix Park, whilst still being only a mile from Dublin's City Centre. It is a real haven from a busy buzzing city and also has has high speed WIFI.
We have renovated our apartment with solid oak floors, a state of the art kitchen in solid cherry and a bathroom in creamy Italian marble, and it furnished with family antiques. After a wet Dublin Day, the best bit is our large jacuzzi hot tub!
Our snug little guest room is 8 x 11 feet and also has its own large desk, WIFI, safe, CD radio, TV, DVD player, and a double sofa bed, in addition to the actual soft single bed.
We are a 5 minute walk from top tourist attractions including Kilmainham Gaol, Irish Museum of Modern Art and 15 minutes walk to the Guinness Brewery. You can also go for long walks up the river to the historic village of Chapelizod for a pub lunch, or into the verdant Phoenix Park for a long walk or cycle, as we often do.
We are roughly 1.5 km from the city centre and Temple Bar which is a 5 minute bus ride, a 10 minute cycle or 40 minute walk away. We are on multiple bus routes, or 18 minutes walk from Heuston Station where the red LUAS tram/ main airport bus 747 all leave from, it is also the national rail station which serves Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Limerick lines. From Heuston you take the tram into the city in 5 minutes, or you can cycle from us into the city in 15 minutes, if you want to live like a local! We are also 8 minutes from the M50/N4 junction (Dublin's main ring road) by car and 25 minutes drive from the airport. There is free parking in the park beside our home.
We are a thirty something couple who got married in May 2013. For our honeymoon we went around Italy with Wimdu and Airbnb! Between us, we speak, as our first languages, English and Czech, and also from an intermediate to advanced level, Italian, Slovak, French and Russian. We have traveled to over 40 countries between us, last year saw us in Mali, Morocco, Gambia and Senegal, the previous travelling from our Czech second home to Istanbul by rail.
Alice is a freelance opera director and theatre writer/director, with mixed Irish-English-American heritage who mostly runs her own theatre company Wonderland Theatre. If you're interested she can tell you a fair bit about Irish history, writing and culture from her various theatre projects on the topic - one of which, an audio walk of James Joyce's Dubliners is on in Dublin daily. Radek is originally from South Bohemia and now has his own pottery studio in Phibsborough Touch Design Ceramics, which you are very welcome to visit.
Our other interests would be travel, all things cultural - after all we met in the Hugh Lane Art Gallery in Dublin, beach and mountain walks, opera and classical music, reading, movies and cycling.
A breakfast of cereals, home made jams, breads and tea/coffee etc is included in the price.
The bedroom in this listing can also accommodate a second person on the pull out sofa bed or on a single air mattress on the floor, but it's very snug, which is why we only charge less than a bed and breakfast night in a hostel for a second person.
If a couple would like to stay with us, please see our other listing for our double bedroom, stays are for 3 nights or longer - as we need to move into our snug guest bedroom. Just click on our profile to find it.
We welcome long term guests and have had some guests stay with us for over a month. Many of these guests have been moving to a new life in Dublin and we've really enjoyed helping them settle in and find permanent accommodation - and best of all are delighted to have made new friends in Dublin!
We've included gym/hotub/sauna/steamroom in our listing as Alice is a member of the local gym at the Living Well Kilmainham (which is 5 minutes away) and can bring you there for free once as her guest.
If we're free and you can text us to confirm your flight is on time, we're willing to pick you up or drop you at the airport for an additional €25 cash, plus short term car park fees (currently €3/hour) if we need to use it.
Alice is a passionate cook, and qualified at Cook's Academy Dublin last year, so she would warmly invite our guests to share our candlelit dinner with us for an extra €10 cash a night, lunch is €8.She can cook classical Irish, British, Italian, French and Thai food. She would be very happy to teach you the recipes that she cooks too!
Thanks for reading our listing and we hope to welcome you to our home and city soon.
A simple Irish breakfast of cereals, tea or coffee toast, butter and jam is included in the price and if we're in and cooking you're welcome to join us for our candlelit home cooked meals, as many of guests choose to - lunch is €8 and dinner €10.
Breakfast is only available until 11 am, and after this time, we would kindly ask that you only use the kitchen to prepare hot drinks and simple snacks, unless we've made other arrangements together. For instance we've had a great time sharing national recipes and foods with our guests before.
Please don't eat the foods like the bread and milk we set aside for breakfast time throughout the day! Instead we would warmly encourage you to join us for our lunch and dinners.
If you are bringing guests home, we'd like to be asked in advance and to ask that they should leave by 11pm.
You are welcome to use our washing machine but please dry your laundry on the rack in your room.
If you are a smoker, you're most welcome into our home but please smoke on the balcony, with the door closed so the smoke cannot enter the apartment and use an ashtray. This balcony has a kind of roof so you can smoke there even when it's raining!
Please respect our check out time of 11 pm unless otherwise arranged.
When leaving our house please be sure to check that the balcony door is locked, the alarm is one and both the locks on the front door are locked.
Our home is full of beautiful family antiques, please take good care of them.
Please feel free to tell us what your needs are too, so we can have a really great time together

Hey Dublin is a great City and when you stay at Radek and his wife it will be more better. This couple ist so cute and friendly.
My Sister and I stay in their Apartment for 2 nights and enjoy the look out the window. The Apartment ist on an green Island in the City and you can walk or going by bus to the central (for Shopping, Sightseeing or clubing) So a Little peace of happiness in the town. When I came back to Dublin I would stay again. So do it and book ;-)
We stayed there for 4 nights, and we enjoyed it very much.
Alice and Radek have a cosy flat. Our view from the bedroom was great, we walked approximately 20 minutes to the heuston station.
We really can recommend this appartment.
The bedroom was much smaller, than expected.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying with Alice and Radek. They are great hosts and made us feel very comfortable with them. We liked them very much and thought that their apartment is very cute and special. Everybody who stays with them is in very good hands in Dublin. Thanks for everything Alice and Radek!!
We did enjoy our being at Alice and Radek. The place is really cosy and its location is just wonderful. At least for us, my 10 years old daughter and me, leaving by the Phoenix park and Memorial gardens appeared to be much more comfortable and relaxing than if we would have lived in the city centre. Bus stop is just 5 min walk so getting downtown is not a problem, moreover, we had bikes. The apartment inner design reflects the artistic personalities of its hosts and I loved that very much! We spent 7 days in Dublin and for that time I got my favorites at Alice and Radek's place: mug to drink of, picture to look at and so on. It was homelike))
Thanks to Alice and Radek for their hospitality and kind assistance on different aspects concerning our Ireland trip! Hope to visit them once more some day)
While writing I'm drinking a cup of Barry's Tea out of my porcelain mug I got from Radek's pottery and happily thinking back to my stay at Alice and Radek. From their flat in the Bellevue housing complex (for drivers: there is a street sign immediately behind the Liffey bridge) you have a nice view to the War Memorial Gardens. I had a nice walk through the garden up to the Anglers Rest in Chapelizod (@Alice: Thanks for recommendation!) which now is one of my favourite restaurants. Also I can recommend Alice's dinners; she's a fine cook. Summary: Everything was perfect. I will return if I'm lucky to visit dublin again before they will have children.
